The passcode must be entered to open the Telegram app, either if you have locked the app manually or if you are not in the app for a certain period of time (defined in Settings > Privacy & Security > Passcode & Face ID). In any case, you can easily change the passcode or password by following the steps outlined in this article.
Change Passcode (Case 1)
In case you know the passcode but don’t want to keep using it and want to switch to a different passcode, you need to follow the instructions given here.

Now enter the passcode for the Telegram app.
Now go to the settings by tapping on the “Settings” option at the bottom right corner of the screen.
A text box with a slant of “Enter your new passcode” will now appear on the app screen. Enter the new passcode here and tap Next. Then re-enter the same new passcode.

Change Passcode (Case 2)
This is the case when you forgot the password and want to change it. If you forgot the passcode, there is only one way to reset it. You need to uninstall and reinstall the Telegram app and set up the passcode again.
Also, all secret chats will be lost. So be careful with this process. Only do this if you have no other option and cannot remember the passcode.
Change Password (2-Step Verification)

You’ll see a Change Password option in the new menu. Tap on this option.
Enter the new password and tap Next. Then re-enter the new password and tap Next.
You have now changed the password and can use it for two-step verification.
