Are you thinking about creating an online presence for yourself but unsure whether to start a blog or YouTube channel? Let’s talk about blogging vs YouTube in 2022 and which one you should choose.
Should I start a blog or YouTube channel? If you feel more comfortable writing and prefer not to be in front of a camera, you should start a blog. If you don’t mind being in front of the camera and feel confident about learning video editing skills, then a YouTube channel is best for you.
Let’s dive into the details of each and help you decide which one you should pick
Blogging vs YouTube
I started my blog CappuccinoandFashion.com almost 8 years ago purely as a hobby. The process of starting a blog was much easier for me than making videos on YouTube in terms of convenience.
Starting my YouTube channel required a lot more of getting out of my comfort zone and learning new skills that I didn’t really have before like filming and editing videos.
Like every other YouTuber in the beginning, I felt so weird being in front of the camera and basically talking to myself when I was just starting out.
However, I’m very glad I started both because both have helped make my online business what it is today. I can now work full time from home on this online business that I run through my blog and YouTube channel.
But which one should you choose? Blogging or YouTube?

Here are 13 things to consider when making that decision.
- Level of comfort in front of the camera
This one is tricky because initially nobody feels comfortable in front of the camera. Filming yourself for YouTube can feel really awkward and it’s out of the comfort zone for anyone just starting out.
If you’d basically like to do YouTube but feel a little weird in front of the camera, then this isn’t a reason for you to avoid it.
Yes, your first few videos will feel weird to film, but the more you do it, the easier it will become and the more comfortable you’ll be in front of the camera.
So if you’re passionate about it, don’t let the initial awkwardness on camera hold you back.
The required skills
The skills required for each of these platforms are also slightly different. As you read through, keep in mind that you don’t need to have these skills already. These are things you can learn over time as you grow and progress.
For a blog you need the following skills:
Basic Photography Skills – If you need to take your own photos. Alternatively, you can use the stock photos for niche websites that don’t require 100% original photos.
Writing Skills – You must master basic writing, how to outline a post, how to write eloquent and grammatically correct sentences. Again, this is something you can learn over time, or you can use tools to help you with it
