Telegram, the messaging app, is growing in popularity. Although Telegram was founded in 2013 by Russians Nikolai and Pavel Durov, it has only recently become a serious competitor to messaging giants WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. It focuses more on encryption and privacy than the Facebook apps. For example, users can have “secret chats” and send self-destructing messages (similar to Snapchat). Telegram is also a leader when it comes to AI and encourages you to create, download and use specialized Telegram bots, although it has not yet developed a formal marketplace for it.
Although not yet as well known as Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp, Telegram has become popular because of these features:
Fast messaging
Unlimited file share size
Because it’s cloud-based, it’s completely portable
Accessible both on web and mobile
Telegram users can set up channels and send content to their followers. People subscribe to their favorite channels.
Bots are small programs that run inside Telegram and allow for automation. Third-party developers build bots using the Telegram Bot API. Telegram has some official bots for specific purposes, e.g. B. @gif and @GDPRbot. Each channel owner can run one or more bots to automate processes in their channels.
A chatbot is a specific type of bot. However, there are several other uses for bots. If you can think of a way to automate a process in Telegram, you can probably find or write a bot to do the work for you.
Bots can even offer HTML5 games to their users to play alone or compete against each other in groups and one-on-one chats. Bots can track high scores for each game played in each chat. Whenever there is a new leader in a game, bots can notify other playing members in chat that they need to reinforce it.
The lack of a formal marketplace and official bot creation tool has slowed the adoption of Telegram bots. Hopefully Telegram fixes these glaring omissions soon. In the meantime, you’ll either have to create your own bot (not as difficult as it sounds if you’re using the BotFather bot – see below for details), or find an existing app that does what you want. This post suggests some of the best Telegram bots of 2021 that you can use as a starting point.
What can bots do for you?
You can set up bots to automate many of the activities in your channels. For example, you can set up a bot that creates reminders about your text messages or helps users save files to the cloud.

BotFather describes himself as the one bot that rules them all. You can use it to create new bot accounts and manage your existing bots. If you go to BotFather in your Telegram app, you will be linked to Telegram bot help files as well as the bot API manual.
Spoty bot
This bot allows you to listen to music directly from your Spotify account. You can also send songs and lyrics to the different chats you have in the app.
. Eddy Travels bot
Powered by Skyscanner, this bot helps users find the cheapest hotel and flight deals while traveling. This can really help make things more convenient as you don’t have to manually type in your search queries to find what you’re looking for. All you have to do is click on the buttons built into the bot.
If you type “/places” in the text bar, the bot can even help you find the best places to visit while traveling. It can even look up these locations on Google Maps and help users find their way there.
Werewolf bot
If you’re bored and are looking for something fun to play with your friends, try out the Werewolf bot! It is a game of deception in which players need to identify which player is the werewolf. Think Among Us, but on Telegram instead.
